About Academy31

Academy 31 is a two-week Christian camp in Central Texas designed for girls ages 15-21.

The camp is built on the promise that those who seek God will find Him, and is offered with the fervent prayer that we will inspire girls to seek Him with all of their hearts.

So let us know, let us press on to know the Lord.

His going forth is as certain as the dawn;

And He will come to us like the rain,

Like the spring rain watering the earth.

Hosea 6:3

Held in a private home on a family farm, Academy 31 is limited to only 15 girls to provide an intimate setting conducive to a time of refreshment, fellowship, and encouragement. Leaders serve as mentors to the girls; guest speakers share testimony of God’s work in their life and present Scriptural teaching; guest instructors provide Godly mentoring in a variety of practical life skills such as first aid, carpentry, breadmaking, medicinal herbs, outdoor skills, sewing and alterations, home maintenance, banquet preparation, and communication. The girls will have ample time allotted for personal Bible study and prayer time, in addition to enjoyable fellowship and some fun elective classes.

We believe that every girl needs to learn to seek God personally. There is often a mysterious aura that surrounds the concept of “seeking God,” perhaps because we neglect to understand who this God is. He is God Almighty, the Holy One, from whom our sin separates us; yet He has made a way for us to be clothed in His righteousness so that we may boldly approach the throne of grace.
Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.

Hebrews 13:7

He is a God who is great and awesome in holiness, and yet delights in coming near to His people. Indeed, He promises absolutely that those who seek Him will find Him, when they search with all their heart.
The role of our guest speakers is to be the inspiration to seek God as they point to God as Alpha and Omega, beginning and end. Their lives are a testimony of God’s strength in weakness, and of His fulfilled promise to draw near to those who draw near to them. They have sat at the feet of Jesus and learned from Him; indeed, that is all they have to offer, for they have learned that they are nothing, but Christ is all in all.

These Godly women are graciously giving their time to share the stories God is writing in their lives, and to offer sound Biblical teaching to the girls of Academy 31. They will also be available for one-on-one mentoring and counseling upon request. We pray that their lives and teaching inspire you to follow the example of their faith as you consider the outcome of their conductHebrews 13:7.

The measure of a virtuous woman is not in the wonderful speeches she can give at conferences, or the cute clothes that fill her closet, or in her ability to run a household smoothly, but in how faithfully she demonstrates Godliness as she goes about whatever activities fill her everyday life. Her skills are simply assets that enable her to serve others.

The role of our guest instructors is to show a tangible outworking of what faithful Godliness looks like in a woman’s everyday life.

And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

I Corinthians 2:4-5

These instructors will mentor and instruct in practical life skills in their specific areas of expertise. Most of these skills classes will provide hands-on opportunities for girls to actually do or create something.

Skills classes will include topics such as practical life skills such as banquet preparation, auto care, health and nutrition, business, and several aspects of communication. Additionally, there will be electives which allow girls to pick topics that interest them. Choices may include photography, scrapbooking, business, writing, quilting, and farm work.

These practical life skills will enrich the girls’ ability to serve those around them, while providing an opportunity to practice doing all we do to the glory of God. “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” – Colossians 3:17

Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.

Jeremiah 33:3

There is a peculiar phenomenon often seen at retreats, camps, and conferences: we reach a spiritual “high” during the event and are all revved up and excited…….and then we go home.

Somewhere along the way, excitement fades as we sink back into the reality of mundane, everyday life accompanied by its stresses and blahness (and mounds of dishes and hordes of hungry people).

But we occasionally think back nostalgically on the spiritually rich time we enjoyed, and wish we could feel so close to God again.

We at Academy 31 believe these verses contain the solution:

“He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you. Although the Lord has given you bread of privation and water of oppression, He, your Teacher will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will behold your Teacher. Your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right or to the left.” – Isaiah 30:19-21

Although Godly teaching is vital, and mentors can be so helpful, and times of refreshing are wonderful and right and good, we must recognize God as our Teacher. We must learn to hear His voice directing us. We must learn to follow Him.

We don’t want you to leave behind all your excitement when you leave the farm at the end of two wonderful weeks. We want you to take with you the amazing truths God has shown you from His word as you studied it and prayed for insight. Most of all, we want you to take home a deeper relationship with the God who made you, the God who is holy and Almighty and yet is willing to draw near to you.

To that end, girls will have substantial time to be alone with God, studying the Word and praying. There will also be small groups to study the Bible and pray for one another, headed by A31 leadership. The most wonderful thing we could wish for you is that you will know God. There is nothing you can learn that is of any value in comparison to knowing Him. And we can absolutely promise you – because He does, and His Word is faithful and true – that if you seek Him with all your heart, you WILL find Him.

“But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” – Philippians 3:7-8
