Rachel R., an A31 intern, shares her vision and prayer. What a beautiful truth for the children of God to believe: By the grace of God, we are different.

I love old hymns.  Really, truly…singing a couple of old standbys at church like “The Lily of the Valley” or “Softly and Tenderly” just makes my day!  I love reading the hymnal, and the other day I found a hymn that (in my opinion!) could be the theme song at Academy 31.  It’s called “Let Others See Jesus in You.”  The words and tune were both written by B.B. McKinney in the 1920’s.  It begins:

While passing through this world of sin,

And others your life shall view,

Be clean and pure without, within,

Let others see Jesus in you.

Your life’s a book before their eyes,

They’re reading it through and through;

Say, does it point them to the skies,

Do others see Jesus in you?

As Christians, our lives are, in fact a book.  Not only that—it’s a bestseller.  It’s called “Are Christians Really Different?” and the lost people of the world are reading every page to find the answer.  It’s our responsibility to live our lives in such a way that we portray the right and true answer:  By the grace of God, we are different!  The song goes on:

What joy ‘twill be at set of sun,

In mansions beyond the blue,

To find some souls that you have won;

Let others see Jesus in you.

Then live for Christ both day and night,

Be faithful, be brave, and true,

And lead the lost to life and light;

Let others see Jesus in you.

Let others see Jesus in you,

Let others see Jesus in you;

Keep telling the story, be faithful and true,

Let others see Jesus in you.

That is my prayer above all…for God to help me to live bravely and faithfully for Him day and night and to point the way to life and light in Jesus.  That is such a wonderful mission for all of us for Academy 31 and for everyday!  And, through Christ’s redeeming love, we can say “mission accomplished” at the end of each day.
